Reach Out and Read Virginia Week
| |
Our second Annual Reach Out and Read Week was a great success, exceeding expectations with over 8,500 new and gently used books collected. Our ROR friends love to read and inspire our recipients annually by helping out with Reach Out and Read week. So many found the time and energy to organize book drives, and sponsor Read-a-thons and Jeans Days to encourage Virginia's children to read and be successful in school. Thank you to our ROR friends!

Dear Friends
Spring brings rebirth, from leaves on the trees to gardens
filled with colorful flowers and plants. Trees and flowers start by creating
roots and then bud after bud, they blossom. I am reminded of why I love ROR!
That's how our children's brains develop, one bud at a time from ages six
months to five years old. The more we read to them, the more their language skills, creativity and imagination are stimulated. Those early years are crucial to propagating
the 'buds' in our children's brains.
Our ROR doctors help us do that daily in their practices by
coaching parents to read aloud and giving children books to love. Our
volunteers do that by reading in waiting rooms and donating books. Our donors
do that by providing us with the funding to help our programs grow across the
state!
In this newsletter, you will see
as always the support and hard work generously donated by many groups and friends around VA to
inspire school success in our children. Thank you and enjoy the Spring!

Hill Day 2010
|
Sue Rockwell and Congressman Bobby Scott
Sue Rockwell, RORVA director, and 34 other state directors from across the nation gathered in Washington, D.C. for the annual Hill Day! VA legislators have continued to be informed, interested and supportive in the continued growth of ROR across VA. We had 39 Senators sign onto our Senate Appropriations letter and 113 Members of Congress sign on to our House Appropriations letter! RORVA would like to thank Congressmen Bobby Scott and Tom Perriello, and Senator Mark Warner for signing the 2011 appropriations letter. Since summer recess is around the corner, we look forward to hosting our legislators at a clinic in their district! |
