Many of you know that RORVA is part of a national coalition.

For its 20th anniversary, the Reach Out and Read National Center has created a timeline filled with milestones in ROR's history, including the years in which each of the 35 coalitions around the nation were established.
(RORVA was born in 2000.)

To view the timeline, click here or visit ReachOutandRead.org and view the About Us page.

Dear RORVA Friends,

We hope that along with celebrating the warmer weather and sunnier days of spring, you're finding time to read to children in your life and enjoy a few good books yourself.

RORVA is still celebrating the support many of you provided last month, during the first-ever Reach Out and Read Virginia Week, which launched on March 2, Dr. Seuss' birthday.

RORVA Book Drives held in March yielded more than 7,000 books! And we're delighted to inform you that so far, we have shared about 6,000 of these new and gently used titles with ROR doctors across the state. We sincerely thank everyone who participated!

We hope you'll continue partnering with us in the coming weeks and months by hosting book drives, making contributions and in other innovative ways.

As always, thank you for helping change young lives for the better, one book at a time.

All my best,

Sue Rockwell,
RORVA Executive Director

RORVA Literacy Fact for April

"Young children learn a great deal when books are read aloud to them. They learn about the internal structure of stories - how they begin, different types of conflicts, and possible solutions. They sometimes learn empathy for others and see other sides to a story, such as understanding what the main character is going through (whether person or animal), be it fear, anger, or humility.(Source: ReadingRockets.org)
